Hunger experts in Dublin

Over 60 leading experts from around the world will gather in Dublin on 6 March to drive European action on the fight against hunger.

Our charity is working with other organisations to fight hunger.

The roundtable discussion is being hosted by Alliance2015, a strategic partnership of seven EU aid agencies and with the support of the European Community. It will gather policy makers from across the EU, practitioners from Chad, Niger, Ethiopia and Laos, academics, NGOs and others to examine EU leadership on hunger and to assess opportunities to strengthen that leadership.

Round table discussions

The aim of the discussion is to help EU leaders build community resilience and improve nutrition for those living in poverty in the developing world. Recommendations will be made as to how to bridge the gaps between political ambition, policy opportunities and practical action.

Hunger worldwide

Across the globe today, almost 870 million people suffer from hunger and approximately two billion people are affected by malnutrition. This prevents people, communities and countries from reaching their potential and laying the foundations for a healthy life.

Leading the fight

As a recognised leader in the fight against hunger and undernutrition, Ireland is using its EU presidency to strengthen the focus of the EU in this area.

Upcoming summit

The event will be a significant step in the right direction for Europe ahead of the May meeting of EU Foreign Affairs Ministers and the United Nations Millennium Development Goals Summit in September 2013.
