Philippines typhoon: fishing communities
Fishing communities in the Philippines have been ravaged by Typhoon Haiyan, with thousands of boats damaged or destroyed. This has left many people without a source of food or income. As well as focusing on people's immediate needs, long-term commitment is needed to rebuild these communities.

Concern CEO Dominic MacSorley visited the island of Panay – which lay directly in the path of the typhoon. He said:
Many of these people have lost their homes but, more importantly, they have lost the means to earn a living. The international community must start looking beyond the immediate short-term needs of those affected by typhoon and focus on rebuilding the livelihoods of local communities to bolster the prospects for economic recovery in the areas devastated by Typhoon Haiyan.
