Somalia: signs of food crisis
As Somalia prepares to celebrate Independence Day on 1 July, Concern Worldwide examines the all-too-familiar signs of another looming food crisis.
Three years ago, drought and famine claimed the lives of 260,000 people, most of whom were children. Despite this ongoing crisis, just 12% of the country’s humanitarian funding needs have been met this year.
Crystal Wells, Concern’s communication officer, talked to people who have been driven from their homes. She heard their stories of conflict, displacement and drought – signs that another food crisis could engulf the country later this year.
