The “world is on fire” declares humanitarian leader in new report urging UN to better protect civilians during conflicts

Press release4 September 2018

THE UN and governments around the world are urged to act on key peacebuilding recommendations that address global conflict – which are made in a landmark report published today by international aid agency Concern Worldwide.

The report, ‘Breaking the Cycle of Conflict, Hunger and Human Suffering,’ makes 20 key recommendations, eight of them directed at the UN and national governments, which will be discussed at a global conference taking place in Dublin, Ireland this Friday, where UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed and President Bill Clinton are keynote speakers.

Speaking about the new report, Concern’s Chief Executive, Dominic MacSorley, said: “Despite incredible progress in the alleviation of extreme poverty and global hunger made in recent decades, climate change and surging levels of conflict are now hitting the world’s poorest harder than ever before, with over 68 million people forcibly displaced and 134 million in need of humanitarian assistance.
