Sow the seed of hope in the Central African Republic

Isabella holds the seed vouchers she received from Concern. Reka Sztopa/2016/CAR

The Central African Republic (CAR) is one of the poorest countries in the world. Prolonged conflict has severely affected the livelihoods and living conditions of 2.4 million people. As a result access to income and food has significantly reduced. The effect on families and communities has been devastating.

Isabella's story

Isabella lives with her husband and four young sons in the Central African Republic, but after her village was attacked she was forced to flee to the bush. When she returned, her village had been destroyed, livestock had been stolen, houses damaged and the village’s only health centre had been looted. Having lost so much during the conflict, Isabella’s young family had been struggling to survive.

Please will you help us reach families like Isabellas’?

Thanks to supporters like you, Isabella received a seed voucher which enabled her to purchase maize, sesame and peanut seeds at the local Village Seed Fair. With these seeds she was able to grow enough food to feed her four boys throughout the dry season, when little or no rain means crops cannot grow and many families face the threat of hunger.

A gift from you today could provide life-changing seed vouchers to more families. For mothers like Isabella this could mean an end to constant worry about where your family’s next meal will come from and it could mean your children don’t have to go to bed hungry.

With a seed voucher a family can purchase 25kg of seeds- from maize, to peanuts, to squashes and vegetables – giving them a crucial choice about the seeds they sow. Families may even have seeds left over to sell at the next Seed Fair.

Please give what you can today to give more families in the Central African Republic hope for a brighter future.
