Our work in Burundi

Concern Worldwide has been working in Burundi since 1997. Our focus is on livelihoods, health and nutrition.

Our teams in Burundi and Rwanda are responding to recent political events as well as the effects of El Nino, through nutrition, health, shelter and livelihoods interventions.

The graduation model is an innovative approach to addressing extreme poverty that includes skills training and access to financial services. Learn about our graduation model in Burundi by watching the video below.

Health and nutrition

Concern focuses on improving access to quality healthcare in Burundi, with a particular emphasis on those people who are excluded from the health system. We put a special emphasis on community-based health and nutrition activities which include the care group model, community (kitchen) gardens, small-scale savings and lending schemes, and role-model mothers.
