DEC Middle East Humanitarian Appeal
Conflict in the Middle East is devastating lives.
Violence has displaced nearly two million people, decimated livelihoods, crippled food systems, destroyed crop fields, severely restricted humanitarian operations and resulted in the collapse of health services and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) systems.
In Gaza, people are dying of hunger and disease, as well as injuries caused by the conflict. Food and clean water are desperately scarce with tens of thousands of children requiring treatment for acute malnutrition. There are reports of people dying from starvation every day.
The hostilities in Gaza are reported to have caused 60,138 deaths, injured 146,269 people and displaced about two million people (almost the entire population of Gaza).
In Lebanon , the ceasefire agreement at the end of last year meant some of the people displaced by conflict could return to their communities and start to rebuild their lives. Months on, many still have no home to return to and are cut off from basic services.
It is critical that, together with other DEC member charities, we scale up our emergency response to support those in urgent need of help.
Civilians face the impossible choice between starvation and risking death to access food.
Concern is working with our international NGO partner, CESVI to deliver life-saving aid in Gaza. With funds from this appeal, through CESVI we have:
- Improved access to drinking water through water-trucking.
- Provided decent sanitation facilities, basic hygiene items, and awareness raising on key-messages on hygienic practices in emergency.
- Sourced life-saving water filtration equipment for use in the last remaining children’s hospital serving Gaza city.
