DEC Venezuela Earthquake Appeal
Venezuela has been hit by two powerful earthquakes. Millions of people are in need of assistance and 1,700 have been confirmed dead.
On Wednesday 24 June, Venezuela was struck by two earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitudes, just 39 seconds apart – these are some of the strongest the country has seen in a century.
The humanitarian needs are immense.
Tens of thousands of people are missing and more than 4,000 people are injured and need urgent medical care, with the country’s hospitals under extreme pressure.
Before the earthquakes, Venezuela was already facing a severe economic crisis and the needs now are overwhelming.
Many survivors are sleeping in makeshift tents on the street and urgently need shelter, food and water. With road, power lines and critical infrastructure destroyed, families are cut off from essential services and supplies.
We are responding through our partner on the ground, Acted, to provide shelter, essential household items, clean water and sanitation, and support to protect the safety and dignity of survivors.
More funds will allow DEC charities to save more lives. Please donate now.
Funds raised in this appeal will go towards supporting the emergency response in Venezuela. allocate 10p of your donation to cover general support and running costs. There is a small chance that we will raise more money than is needed for this appeal. If this happens, we’ll spend any additional funds on other Concern programmes – wherever the need is greatest.
