Concern on the streets: FAQs

We want to ensure that our fundraisers do their jobs ethically and respectfully, without putting undue pressure on donors. So, all our Street Fundraisers are paid a flat hourly rate of pay. They do not receive performance-related pay, commission or bonuses based on the number of donors they sign up.

We don’t pay commission to our Street Fundraising staff. Costs are strictly budgeted and monitored each month. In 2022, we spent 78.9% of our income on our overseas programmes tackling hunger, 16.7% on raising funds for our work (this includes street fundraising costs), 4% on advocacy and campaigning and 0.4% on governance. What you need to know:

• The hours are Monday to Friday from 10 am to 6 pm.
• You have the option to work 4 or 5 days per week.
• The pay is £11.95 per hour with paid holidays.

You will receive comprehensive, fully paid training before hitting the streets of London with a team of lively, like-minded people. You will be fully supported all the way by our committed and caring team leaders. You’ll be asking members of the public to come on board with a regular gift by direct debit. You will work in different locations each day so every day is different and it’s a great way to get to know London!

There are good opportunities to progress. Many street fundraisers have gone on to be team leaders or managers or have moved on to other departments within Concern.

All Concern staff comply with Data Protection legislation and are required to sign a confidentiality agreement with Concern. To set up a regular donation, we require the donor’s names, contact details and bank information in order to identify the giver, and a signature to process the donation. 

We are committed to keeping our donors’ personal information safe.  All the information collected on the street is stored securely and confidentially. The option to phone people back to register incomplete details can be offered, but results in additional costs for us.

We send a confirmation letter in advance of any payment being collected.  Donors can decide what sort of communication they wish to receive from us and are able to opt out of marketing communications at any time by contacting our Supporter Care team on 0800 032 400 or at [email protected].

Supporters who commit to a regular gift help Concern plan our work tackling hunger and budget for the long term. Regular gifts are not tied to a specific project or country - this means we can ensure your money goes where it is needed most and it allows us to respond swiftly and effectively to emergencies.

All Concern Street Fundraisers sign up to a strict code of conduct.  Concern is registered with the Fundraising Regulator and is committed to achieving the highest fundraising standards, including complying with the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Fundraising Practice.  Concern is also a member of the Institute of Fundraising, which promotes the highest standards in all forms of fundraising, including street fundraising.
