Five ways to volunteer this Volunteer’s Week

Five ways to volunteer this Volunteer’s Week
Story2 June 2025Charlotte Mallory

Volunteer’s Week is a time to celebrate and recognise the contributions of volunteers. For Concern, we have a lot to celebrate! Our volunteers are stars of the community, giving their time generously to help people living in extreme poverty.

There are many ways to get involved with Concern as a volunteer.

Volunteer at one of our shops

Did you know that we have eight Concern charity shops across Northern Ireland? Our volunteers are a key part of the community, getting to know regular shoppers, taking in generous donations and raising vital funds to support the communities we work with around the world.

So whether you’re a student, part-time worker, retired or just want to give something back for a few hours, find your nearest shop now and get in touch!

Become a trustee

Trustees are responsible for the overall management and administration of a charity. They meet and make decisions about the charity’s direction and policies and ensure that the charity complies with legal requirements too.

All our trustees are drawn from diverse backgrounds in business and professional life and bring a broad range of experience and skills to board deliberations.

The board meets five times a year and its members all contribute to guide Concern’s work to fight extreme poverty and ensure it does so responsibly.

If you’re interested in becoming a Concern trustee then keep an eye on our jobs page for when vacancies become available.

Join a group to raise vital funds

Our community groups are based in Northern Ireland and run events to raise and collect funds. They are passionate members of the local community and have a lot of fun while making a big difference!

Email our Groups and Volunteers Fundraising Executive, Isabel, for more information.

Adjudicate our Concern Debates

Did you know that schools across Northern Ireland take part in Concern Debates? A chance for our citizens of tomorrow to gain a deeper understanding of the global issues affecting millions of people, develop their skills in research and debating and build their confidence in public speaking. But this wouldn’t be possible without our volunteer adjudicators!

If you’d be interested in joining our debates team as an adjudicator, please reach out to Amelia, our NI Schools and Debates Officer.

Cheer our Runners

Our incredible supporters run marathons, scale mountains and skydive to support our work with communities across the world. Many challenges push people to their limits and encouragement and motivation is what gets them across that finish line!

If you can lend your positivity to our amazing challenge participants, then please get in touch too. We’d love to have you join our cheer station teams, put a smile on someone’s face and have a great time!
