Concern Worldwide statement on UK development reforms
Concern Worldwide’s Director of Advocacy and Institutional Relationships, Anushree Rao, says:
“Today the government has shared its intentions for the future of development assistance, following cuts made to the UK aid budget in 2025.
We have already begun to see the impact of significant cuts to aid for those people who need it most. In real terms, this will mean more mothers dying in childbirth, more children going untreated for malnutrition, and more people losing out on vital support.
We welcome the focus on people living in fragile contexts and reaching those in greatest need of humanitarian support. However, the reality is that without reversing the drastic cuts to aid made last year, it is hard to see how that focus could go beyond positive words.
The UK has historically been a global leader in humanitarian response. Sadly, this is no longer the case. The government must urgently reverse these cuts and recommit to tackling global hunger and extreme poverty.”
