Statement from Concern Worldwide on the government's Spending Review
After today's Spending Review by the UK government, Concern Worldwide (UK)'s Advocacy Manager, Sally Tyldesley, said:
"Today’s Spending Review confirmed just how short-sighted and callous cuts to the UK aid budget are. The cost of these UK aid cuts, coming on top of several years of previous reductions, will tragically be measured in lives and livelihoods lost in the world’s most fragile countries."
All UK aid must prioritise marginalised communities who face the greatest impacts of a catastrophic climate, conflict, and hunger crisis
"The government must conduct and publish a full impact assessment of the UK aid cuts before any decisions are made. All UK aid must prioritise marginalised communities who face the greatest impacts of a catastrophic climate, conflict, and hunger crisis.
"The Chancellor today announced that the government would cease the use of hotels for asylum seekers this parliament - presently this domestic spend makes up a third of UK aid. This funding must go back into efforts to reduce poverty overseas, reaching the furthest behind first."
