The Irish Global Health Network Conference was held on 26th and 27th October 2022.

Concern in Chad presented the project 'Mobile clinics: an alternative model of care in conflict-affected settings within COVID-19 context, Chad' at the 'Conflict' session.

The presentation describes the Mobile Clinic project which supported:

  • Human resources: two teams of qualified health workers
  • Drug and ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) procurement, stock monitoring, rational drug use
  • Water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) - eg hand washing stations, waste management

The project had several key lessons learned:

  • The referral system is a key component to support mobile clinics, facilitate safe referral of complicated cases and ensure continuum of care
  • COVID-19 infection prevention and control measures during service delivery are essential for maintaining safe services at mobile and static facilities alike
  • In fragile and conflict-affected settings, mobile clinics have the potential to improve access for vulnerable and isolated populations
