How Concern is reaching families in Gaza and Lebanon

As a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), Concern has been part of the Middle East Humanitarian Appeal to support families in Gaza and Lebanon whose lives have been torn apart by conflict.
The appeal has to date raised over £46 million. With this support, Concern has been able to provide vital resources including food, clean water, and hygiene kits.
Distributing warm food and hygiene kits in Lebanon

In Lebanon, more than a million people fled their homes when conflict escalated in the Middle East in September last year. While the ceasefire agreement meant that some people could return to their communities, many people’s homes were destroyed, and many more remain cut off from basic services including water, electricity, and healthcare.
Concern is present in Lebanon and collaborated with local NGO Nusaned to address food security and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) needs.
The first part of our response saw the delivery of a daily hot meal to displaced families living in shelters in the Beirut area. This reached approximately 260 people every day for three months – a total of 15,600 meals.
Care was taken to ensure that the meals were nutritionally balanced and respected local dietary norms, upholding the dignity of those we reached.
Concern and Nusaned also distributed hygiene supplies to over 1,200 people to prevent the spread of illness within overcrowded living conditions caused by displacement. This included soap, disinfectant and sanitary products.
As our response continues, Concern’s partners will begin providing psycho-social support and emergency cash assistance to vulnerable women and girls.
Providing clean water in Gaza

In Gaza, violence has displaced nearly two million people, severely restricted humanitarian operations and resulted in the collapse of health services. The entire population is experiencing extreme levels of hunger, with one in five people facing starvation.
Concern has partnered with the Italian humanitarian organisation CESVI to deliver crucial aid to displaced people in Gaza. Together, our response has focused on meeting immediate needs through improving water access across Khan Younis, Gaza City and Rafah.
Water trucking began in 13 areas, reaching over 15,000 people. With water trucking, specialised trucks are used to bring in clean, potable water into areas that don’t have water access. This can then be distributed to people using jerry cans. Fifty water tanks were also installed.
To improve sanitation conditions in displacement camps, CESVI installed 28 latrines across seven camps. These were designed to be accessible for people with disabilities and are expected to serve over 10, 000 people.
